Sustainability Commitment for Artists
Introduction
This document is designed to inspire artists to actively participate in elrow and Monegros’ commitment to sustainability. It represents our values and aims to strengthen collaboration in creating unique and memorable experiences that respect both the environment and people.
We understand sustainability as a crucial and non-negotiable factor in decision-making—one that allows us to grow within the limits of our planet, while also embracing the inclusive approach society needs and considering the economic impact of our activity.
Our Values
The climate crisis calls for innovative approaches to reduce our environmental impact. At elrow and Monegros, we believe entertainment can lead the way toward a more sustainable future. Sustainability and fun go hand-in-hand with our essence: creativity and innovation. This balance is essential to ensure the future of our events.
Our Mission
As leaders in the world of entertainment, we are committed to transforming our events into more sustainable models—improving our relationship with the environment and promoting these values to society and our audience by setting an example.
Analysis and Certification
Since 2022, elrow has measured its carbon footprint and analyzed its impact in terms of energy, water, waste, and the resources used in our festivals. This allows us to identify areas for improvement and implement effective actions. Providers and collaborators are expected to provide the required data to the sustainability team within two weeks after each event.
Since 2024, we have been part of A Greener Future (AGF), an organization that audits and certifies sustainability at festivals. Achieving this accreditation validates our actions to reduce environmental impact and strengthens our commitment to sustainable practices and industry standards.
Sustainability Commitment
Both the Artist and the organization confirm their commitment to minimizing environmental impact and promoting more sustainable practices within their collaboration. We agree to work together on the following points, provided they are viable from a practical and commercial perspective and comply with applicable local laws and regulations:
1. Resources
At elrow, we promote the efficient use of resources and appreciate when artists adopt the same mindset.
We expect technical rider requests to be responsible—avoiding unnecessary waste or materials that cannot be reused. This approach helps us reduce environmental impact while meeting each artist’s essential needs.
2. Waste
We are committed to responsible waste management—from separation and recycling to waste minimization. We invite artists to support and engage in these sustainable practices during their time at the festival.
3. Food
Food production is responsible for nearly 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The environmental impact of food greatly depends on its origin and type, with meat-based diets having the highest carbon footprint. For this reason, at all our events we promote the consumption of plant-based products as part of our sustainability commitment and invite artists to consider this option in their meals.
4. Transport and Carbon Footprint
At elrow and Monegros, we actively work to reduce our environmental impact: we measure and audit emissions, invest in energy efficiency plans and batteries, replace fossil fuels with more sustainable options, optimize transport, and promote eco-friendly food choices at our events.
We know transport is one of the main sources of emissions—whether from infrastructure and decor, audience travel, or artist transportation. That’s why we encourage artists to look for more sustainable travel options. If you’re already part of a carbon offsetting program, we’d love for you to share it with us so we can continue working together toward a lower impact.
A standard flight from London to Madrid emits approximately 118 kg of CO₂ per passenger. Planting 12 trees offsets this emission. If you’re interested in offsetting your travel footprint, you can join any of the projects offered by Tree Nation.
5. Artist Transfers
We are working to reduce and optimize artist transport routes. Where facilities allow, we aim to gradually replace our traditional fleet with low-emission vehicles, prioritizing electric vehicles for artist transfers as long as it does not compromise logistics.
6. Communication and Commitment
At elrow and Monegros, we want to use our media platforms to promote inclusive and environmentally responsible habits.
We encourage artists to voluntarily share and support the festival’s sustainability initiatives through their own channels. Likewise, we’re happy to give visibility to your own sustainable practices and achievements.
Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
At elrow, we are on a path of continuous improvement toward sustainability, fully aware that there’s still much to do. We believe sustainability is a shared and ongoing effort, and we truly value artists’ ideas, feedback, and suggestions—together we can find innovative ways to make our industry more environmentally conscious. This kind of collaboration is key to showing that creativity and environmental commitment can go hand in hand.
We sincerely thank you for being part of this positive change.
